Chandrakanti

A traditional food of Odisha


Chandrakanti is a deep fried sweet dish made from green gram/moong dal .This is one of the most popular sweet dish of ganjam district of Odisha . But this recipe is not too much sweet like any other sweet dish .

Soaking time : 2~3 hr

Preparation time: 1hr

Cooking Time: 20 min


Ingredients

  • Moong dal/ split green gram - 1~1.5 cup (aprox 200 gram)

  • Sugar - aprox 6 tbsp or as per taste

  • Grated coconut - 4 tbsp

  • choped coconut - 3 tbsp

  • Green cardamom powder - 4

  • Ghee - 1 tsp

  • Oil for frying

  • Water - 2~2.5 cup

  • Salt - 1 pinch


Procedure

Step 1

Rinse & soak moong dal for 2 hour .

Step 2

With the help of a blender make a smooth paste of moong dal .

Step 3

In a kadai add 2~2.5 cup of water & boil it .

When it comes to a boil add coconut,sugar,salt,cardamom powder & ghee .


Step 4

Add moong dal paste & mix well.Make sure ti keep the flame low .Continiously stir it to avoid sticking to the bottom & forming lumps .

When it become thick like this switch off the flame .Do not over cook because it will become dry .

Step 5

Now brush some oil or ghee in a plate.

Spread the batter properly with a thickness of in between 1/2~1 inch .Can also brush some oil/ghee to the spoon and spread to avoid sticking . Keep it in fridge for 30 minute to set .

Step 6

Now cut it into square size piece .

Step 7

Heat some oil in a kadai .

Fry them on low~medium flame till golden in colour .



Now Chandrakanti is ready to be served .
