Cornmeal Halwa/Makki atte ka Halwa

A quick & easy desert to treat your sweet tooth

Cornmeal Halwa is an Indian desert which is very easy & quick to prepare.If you are craving for sweet and want to have some homemade sweet this halwa is a great option to treat your sweet tooth and within few time you can make this halwa.Cornmeal Halwa is equally testy as moong dal halwa.

Preparation Time: 5 min

Cooking Time: 15~20 min.

Total time: 20~25 min.


  • Cornmeal/Makki ka atta - 1 cup

  • Sugar - 3/4 ~1/2 cup/ as per taste

  • Ghee -2~3 tbsp

  • Cardamom powder - 3 cardamom/2 pinch

  • Cashew -10~15

  • Almond for garnishing

  • Water -2 cup or 1/2 cup milk &1.5 cup water. As per your choice, both will taste great


Step 1

Heat 2 ~2.5 tbsp of ghee in a pan or kadai

Step 2

Now add cornmeal and roast it till golden brown on low to medium flame.Make sure not to burn the cornmeal .At this stage you will get a nice aroma of the roasted cornmeal.

Step 3

Add sugar & cardamom powder.Mix well.

Step 4

Add water or combination of water and milk as mentioned .Here I have used milk &water. You can use only water also. Keep the flame on low and keep stirring to avoid lumps.

Step 5

Cook until water evaporates and halwa gets thick.

Step 6

Now fry some cashew in 1/2 tsp ghee and add in the halwa along with the ghee and mix well.If you don not want to fry than directly add it to the halwa.Some time to make halwa more rich I add some extra ghee on top.But not always.

Now Cornmeal Halwa is ready to be served.Garnish it with some chopped almond.
