Paneer tikka on tawa
A delcious Indian appetiser
Paneer tikka is an Indian dish made from cubes of paneer marinated with curd and some indian spices and grilled in a tandoor. But at home we do not have tandoor so we will be making paneer tikka on tawa without compromising the taste and texture.
Preparation Time:1hour 15 min
Cooking Time: 10~15 min
Total Time: Approx 1 hours 30 min.
( preparation time is including marination time )
Ingredients: (for 2 servings)
Paneer -200 grm
Capsicum & onion cut in to cubes -1 from each ( you can use red and yellow bell pepper)
Thick Yogurt - 1/2 cup ( 4 tbsp)
Ginger garlic paste /crushed -1 tsp
Keshmiri red chilli powder - 1/2 tbsp
Turmeric - a pinch
Salt to taste
Corriender powder - 1/2 tsp
Garam masala powder -1/2 tsp
Chat masala powder - 1/4 tsp
Lemon juice - 1 tsp
Carom seed ( ajwain) - 1/4 tsp
Gram flour ( besan) - 1 tbsp
Mustard oil - 1.5 tbsp (1 tbsp for marination & half tbsp for brushing the tikka at the time of cooking)
Cut paneer in to big cubes, add some red chilli powder, salt and keep it aside for 10 to 15 min. This will help to remove excess moisture from paneer. At that time cut capsicum and onion and assemble all spices require for marination.
Add capsicum and all spices excluding mustard oil, gram flour, & carom seed
Heat a pan, add 1 tbsp mustard oil,add carom seed and turmeric powder.Then add gram flour and roast it for few second.
Add the roasted gram flour to the marination and add salt to taste. Be careful at the time of adding salt because we have added some salt before. Mix well and marinate for 1 hour.Roasted gram flour gives a nice flavor to the tikka.
Arrange marinated paneer ,capsicum and onion with the help of skewers.
Heat a nonstick tawa and brush some oil.( If u don't have a nonstick tawa then season your tawa with oil.That means apply oil on tawa,heat the tawa. When oil will smoke, cool down the tawa by sprinkling some water. Repeat this process 3 to 4 time. and your tawa will work like a nonstick tawa).
Arrange the paneer skewers on it and brush some oil.If you dont have skewers then you can put the paneer cubes and onion,capsicum directly on tawa. Here i have put 3 ~4 pieces directly on tawa.
Cook on medium flame and roatate it in between.Cook it till all sides become slightly brown.
Paneer tikka is ready now but we need to give a perfect tandoor texture,so that the edges of the tikka will be crisp and inside will be juicy. Now we will put our tikka on a wire roaster and roast it on direct flame by roatating the tikka.
You can roast the tikka on direct flame.But if you are not comfortable use wire roaster.
Now paneer tikka is ready to be served.
Note: If you are using bamboo skewer you need to soak the skewer in water for half an hour to prevent burning.
