Raw Papaya Curry/Amrutabhanda kasa in Odia

We all know that papaya is a super food having lots of health benefits.Both ripe & raw papaya holds a number of amazing health benefits.Raw papaya is packed with vitamins,enzymes& phytonutrients. it is also a rich source of magnesium,potassium,vitamin A,B,C&E.Below i am going to share some important health benefits of eating papaya on our regular diet.

Now I got a logic of calling papaya as amrutabhanda in odisha,because this one fruit is a bhandar /storage of so many health benefits and it works like a amrut to human life.That is the reason in many Indian houses you will find Papaya tree at their backyard.I do not have idea of other part of Odisha but in Odisha many people have 1 or 2 papaya tree & we never need to purchase papaya whether raw or ripe .In odisha raw papaya is regularly use in everyday cooking in different way.I still remember when we have too much of papaya in tree we also distribute to our neighbors and prepare a lot papaya curry/Amrutabhanda kasa and every body in our family love this.

Ingredients ( 3 servings)
Raw papaya - Half medium to large
Onion -1 big
Tomato - 1 medium
Garlic clove -4 ~5
Ginger-1/2 ~1 inch
Bay leaf - 1
Cumin seed - 1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder- 1/4 tsp
Red chilli powder
Curry powder -1 tsp
Garam masala Powder-1/2 tsp
Cut papaya & potato in to cubes .Wash properly,Papaya cubes should be slightly smaller than potato.
Make a paste of tomato,ginger,garlic & half of a onion.
Heat 1 .5 tbsp of oil on medium flame in a pressure cooker and add bay leaf & cumin seed and let it crackle.
Chop remaining half of the onion and add.fry it till it become slightly golden brown.
Add the masala paste,curry powder,turmeric powder,red chilli powder and cook till oil separates.
Add few spoon of water if masala is dry and add potato,papaya,salt to taste & garam masala powder,mix well.Cook for 1 more minute.
Add water roughly around 1 cup & mix well. No need to add too much of water.The curry taste good if it is semi gravy kind of consistany .Pressure cook it on high flame up to 3 whistle &turn off the flame.
Let the cooker release the pressure and than open the lid. mix it gently.
Now Papaya curry/Amrutabhanda kasa is ready to be served.If you want you can add some chopped corriender leaves. You can enjoy this with roti,paratha or rice.
