Raw Papaya Salad

A healthy salad recipe


Raw papaya salad is prepared from shredded unripe papaya, and is originated from ethnic Lao people.This salad is also eaten throughout southeast Asia .In Cambodia it is known as bok I'hong ,in Laos as Tam som,in Thailand as som tam. In this salad people use dry shrimp here I am going to share a vegitarian version of it. This recipe is not the authentic som tam,but taste delicious with commonly available ingredients at our home.

Ingredients

  • Raw papaya - 1 small

  • Carrot- 1 small

  • Green chilli/ red chilli -1 ~2/as per taste

  • Garlic clove-2

  • Roasted peanuts

  • Soya sause- 1/4 tsp

  • Honey/powder jaggery/ brown sugar- 1tsp

  • Leamon juice- 2 wedges

  • Salt to taste

Procedure

Step 1

Peel the papaya and with the help of a peeler collect all strips.



Now cut them in thin slices to make julienne.


In the same way cut the carrot



Step 2

With thev help of a mortar pestle crush garlic & green chill


Step 3

In a bowl add papaya & carrot julienne, crushed garlic & green chilli, leamon juice,salt,soya sauce,honey . mix them well.



finially add some roasted peanuts and raw papaya salad is ready to be served.

(Note: If you want you can add some sliced tomato/cherry tomato & long beans )
